we convened here for the same reason
and will leave with our respective impressions,
parting to actions less obvious.
Learn from objects of memory more than the stories
filtered through an audience.
Fairness lies in the attention given to those closest
as opposed to the distraction of fault found further away.
Don’t regret forgetting to toil in fantasy
putting off pleasure because the work results
while the titillation of unreality rubs numb.
If this were fiction we would have followed our dreams to disaster
and if not death, eventual redemption,
and in popular stories, success.
The allure of the expected tempts us to regret safe decisions
as the confining result,
when the risk holds the obvious reward,
seen only in the rearview reflection,
