Options lost to habit

In your absence

charged devices splay across

your side of the bed

hoping for them to speak to me

and if not,

providing peace knowing

that at any time

they may light up the night with

fake entertainment.

It’s not something I want to keep remembering

despite it’s merit for lessons

and those who know more will forget

the instinct to keep living

yet we repeat the performance

of someone repeating something they said.

“Run anytime,

morning crisp sunshine

smelling of bacon and soap,

daytime bright respite from work,

time to breathe and contemplate,

or evening under cool shadows and

traffic from frazzled commuters

not running their worries into air.”
